          His father, Dr. Frederick Close, was an orthopedic surgeon, and his mother, Ann, was a homemaker. He has two younger brothers, Daniel and Philip.

          Due to his father's profession, the Close family moved frequently. Eric lived in Indiana and Michigan before eventually settling in San Diego, California, when he was seven years old.
